In this tutorial we will be describing the step by step process for creating a vertical scrollbar using the Flash MX ScrollBar component as seen in the movie on the right.

Step 1: Insert a new layer for your scroll bar.
Use the text tool to create a text box on the stage.
Using the Properties Window, select Dynamic Text from the Text Type drop down window.
Enter a name in the Instance field. In this case we named it scroll1.

Step 2: Open up the Components Window and drag the ScrollBar component inside the text box and place it on the right hand side. Scroll bars added to text fields are automatically sized to fit the text field.
If you resize the text field, drag the ScrollBar off the text field and then onto it again to resize the scroll bar.
Click once on the ScrollBar component and, in the Properties Window, select the Parameters tab. You can see how the component automatically identified the Instance name of the text box.
In the Component field, enter in a name. We named ours scrollbar1.
Enter your text inside the text box.
Go ahead and Test Movie.

Note: Add a few breaks at the end of the text box in order to view the complete scroll.
